The genus Achillea is the most important genus of the Asteraceae family and comprises about 140 species worldwide. Forty-four species grow in Turkey, among which 21 are endemic species. The extracts of some Achillea species have been used in alternative medicine and society to treat various diseases. Achillea species have ethnopharmacological importance in folk medicine as remedies because of their various medicinal properties such as anti-inflammatory, antiphlogistic, spasmolytic, analgesic, and hemostatic activities. Therefore, many studies have been conducted on the biological activities of Achillea species, its chemical composition, its anxiolytic, antioxidant, and antimicrobial activities, and its essential oils.
